Twelve Transition Age (English)
"Twelve: transition age" is a photo-documentary project that began in the summer of 2008, which aims to be presented under the controversial cycle we are about to traverse; 2012.
A journey around the world, where 12 countries, as diverse as they can be, where visited; and where 12 children 12 years old were photographed and interviewed.
They answered simple questions such as favourite color, favourite food, etc. In opposition, they were also asked about their views for future problems and fears. Similarly we asked them to share what they would do to improve things on the planet if they would be the world leaders.
This colorful cultural mosaic is complemented with the insertion of a speech by Severn Cullis-Suzuki, a Canadian woman who in 1992 at the age of 12, presented to UN representatives at Rio de Janeiro´s environment summit. A speech containing young people environmental views. After her reading she was loudly applauded.
20 years later, the voice of these world 12 children not only reveals that things have not changed, but the
planet´s problems have been compounding at an accelerated pace. What to do? To go on waiting, to keep going on and see that nothing happens? or do we act and fight from our own little trench? That is precisely the tone of pondering proposed by this project. It proposes that through the reflection of these children, we deepen and act consciously in this time of transition.
Twelve Transition Age, a time capsule, an invitation to open the eyes to twelve stories, with their realities and their differences, what unites them and separates them, with differences in skin and tastes, but all inhabiting the same planet.
“Twelve” is a space to become again twelve years and ask how I was back then. To think of those that age and those who will be that age. A proposal to mindfully pause in our personal life and ask ourselves, who do I want be? Who do I want to be for society? And who do I want to be for the planet
