WILLIAM BLAKE (1757-1827) WAS THE MULTIMEDIA ARTIST OF HIS TIME. He ingeniously combined poetry, painting and relief-etching to make spectacular 'illuminated' books which he published himself. Music, song-writing and singing were an equally vital, but overlooked dimension of his creative process, as his most popular work Songs of Innocence and of Experience suggests, even if no trace of his own tunes remain... . We took up the challenge and released an independent album which you may hear at music.victorvertunni.com/
Some of the songs have been included in two of Theatre of Eternal Values ( tevtheatre.com ) theatrical productions based on William Blake’s life and work, William Blake’s Divine Humanity (New Player’s Theatre and Blake 250 festival, London, 2007) and Eternity in a Hour (tours in Finland, Turkey, USA and across Europe since 2008) in which Victor plays the role of the Bard.
Our Story
Encouraged, by the fact that Blake had a preference for popular folk music over hymnal chants or chamber music, I have been composing simple melodies and refining them in creative bursts since the early 80s and made an acoustic recording of some of them in 2004.People loved them and when my sons Leo (guitars, arrangements & producer) and Maxim (Bass, cover art)) grew up they contributed as musicians to their final musical form. We recorded them in Italy together with Deborah Eckman (vocals), Ruslan Pashynskyi (saxophone, flutes, clarinet), Didier Lamothe (accordion), Josef Brazda (violin) and a versatile Amedeo Luvié on cajon. Monia, my partner in life and art, contributes choreographically to the performances as a dancer.
The Video was filmed at Elfo Recording Studio by Alberto Calegari (owner) with Danilele Mandelli at the mixing desk, assisted by Diego .
