Dr. Swanson addresses the pain and suffering most of us have. He shares from 2 Corinthians 1 and John 11. We recognize that God comforts us and that He will not waste the pain and wounds we experience in this life.

All of us carry certain pain. What do we do with those wounds?
Dr. Swanson addresses the topic of suffering with insightful teaching answering many of our questions about why God allows it.

He relates the story of St. Paul from 2 Corinthians 1 and the pain Paul suffered because of the accusations made against him. He feels betrayed by the church. Paul understood that Christ suffered and so shall we. Paul also writes about the comfort he received from God.

Pain and suffering are the common denominators of the human experience because we live in a sinful world where death still reigns. But our response should not be questioning God why did this happen? God does not answer the WHY question as we learn from John 11. When Mary and Martha ask Jesus why He allowed Lazarus to die, His response was tears and then he moved forward in his grief and rose Lazarus from the dead.

We are going to suffer in this life but we are not alone. God is not going to waste the pain and wounds that we experience in this life. Our pain unites us with other people. Christ has power over sin and death.

REFLECTION:
God uses suffering. It is part of the human experience. He is always there to comfort you and give you hope.

Write out your pain and then ask God to use it for His Glory.

Pray through 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 asking for God’s abundant comfort.
