K-9 Maggie was born on October 14, 2005 and died from injuries while serving in the line of duty on December 12, 2011. K-9 Maggie received these injuries while trying to locate a suicidal male, who had reportedly lacerated his wrists and made statements about harming himself. K-9 Maggie was working a trail when she was attacked by a loose Pit Bull. The Pit Bull took K-9 Maggie to the ground and bit her numerous times in the abdomen, legs and facial area. K-9 Maggie was freed by Deputy Kevin Miller and Lieutenant Patrick Sheridan.
K-9 Maggie was an AKC registered black and tan Bloodhound (AKC registered name Magpie’s Electric Potential). K-9 Maggie was obtained from Magpie Kennels in New Jersey. K-9 Maggie was a six year veteran of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office and a part of the patrol division. K-9 Maggie answered 348 calls for service. K-9 Maggie and her handler, lieutenant Patrick Sheridan were members of the Virginia Bloodhound Search and Rescue Association and the National Police Bloodhound Association.
K-9 Maggie was very active in the Louisa County Public Schools, doing demos several times a year at every elementary school in the county. K-9 Maggie also did demos at other schools outside of the county.
K-9 Maggie not only answered calls in Louisa County, she also assisted other local law enforcement agencies along with the Virginia State Police and the FBI.
