Watch the complete one-hour wedding ceremony of Elisa and Armistead at Old First Reformed Church in Brooklyn, New York on October 1, 2011.
Here is the heart behind our ceremony:
This wedding isn’t anything new... Elisa and Armistead are simply joining the generations that went before, a chorus already being sung. They are surrounded by a community of family, friends, and artists who inspire and enrich each moment. The outpouring of love that this community shares and the magnitude of the creative works presented in this wedding is a true blessing.
The series of readings, music, and presentations at the beginning of this service are an expression of the values and commitment that Elisa and Armistead are making today:
— an empty altar that is gradually filled with items representing themes of family, art, home, journey, memory, hope, faith, and love
— music that spans the centuries, lovingly prepared by dear friends, including members of Metropolis Ensemble, the orchestra where Armistead serves as marketing director
— formal and informal readings of favorite passages that prepare for the arrival of the wedding party and the ceremony to come
The traditional elements of this ceremony, led by Caleb Clardy of Trinity Grace Church, signify the importance of a Christ-centered life for Elisa and Armistead. They are standing before their Creator and each other with open arms ready to embrace the promise that He declares: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5)
