1. This is Brighton
I started shooting not long after my thirteenth birthday, and what began as a test, turned into a project that would take 9-10 months of on-and-off shooting to complete. I shot over 45,000 stills including reshoots, not all of which made the final cut, and eventually decided that I had most of the footage I had set out to get for my film.

Shot as a series of stills on a Sony A230. Tilt-Shift effect applied in AE. Edited in FCP.

The music is by the wonderful 'Cinematic Orchestra' who kindly let me use their tracks.

The film itself is dedicated to Rob MacDonald who sadly passed away this year.

Wow, That is one of the most amazing Tiltshifts Ive ever seen. It's so Beautiful. How many shots did you take?
  • Caleb Yule plus 1 month ago
Cheers. I can't be certain how many shots but over 45,000. I really wanted to take all my shots on sunny-bluesky days to give the impression it's a day in Brighton so I had to reshoot several times.
  • Billy Smith 1 month ago
Wow. Thats a lot of Photos.
  • Yeah - 2 or 3 vids like this and that cam will be worn out! Shutter life on those is only 150k or so IIRC.

  • Larchmont Films plus 1 month ago
Well done. Really lovely shots. Did I read correctly that you were only 13 years old when you made this? If so, it makes it an even more remarkable achievment. Did you get any help at all? And did you need a boat for some of those sea to land shots?
  • Caleb Yule plus 1 month ago
Thanks Larchmont. I had no help whatsoever and for the sea to land shots I stood on either the Palace Pier or the harbour wall.
  • Juan Gonzalez 1 month ago
You don't need any help. In fact, I'd say you should keep at your art evolving in your own direction without caring about what the trends are. You have a good sense of what your audience will care for and definitely know how to capture it. Stick to your instincts. I'll showcase this on Monday at TinyWrld.com

    Cheers.

Caleb, just so you know, I'm pretty sure everyone that lives or has lived in Brighton will have seen this video by the end of the day. I'm in Australia but 5 people I know had shared it and I did the same. One of my friends said it made her cry. Pretty good achievement for someone your age. I hope you keep doing what you're clearly very good at xx

I have shared this on my facebook page because I love it, i love the music and the editing. I think Caleb Yule is a name to look out for in the future. On first viewing on an Iphone i loved it. Then I went onto my pc and watched it full screen in HD. It isnt just good, its fantastic, and this guy is 13 years old ! Incredible. The editing is superb, even the the credits at the end work with the haunting music. Watch it in HD Full screen, then watch it again and again.
