"Moving Plant #24" stages a dialogue between nature, artifice and human gestures. The work is composed of fragments from fallen plants placed in an architectural space. Functioning as “moving bodies”, the plants are animated through external mechanisms made from simple low-tech devises.
The work is part of an ongoing project that originated during a residency at Akiyoshidai International Art Village, an institution located in southwest Japan. The project points at the differences and similarities in gestural values between the Japanese and Latin American cultures, and also explores the way gestures can be considered as artificial ways of moving: through discipline, bodily techniques or social constructions, the body learns its natural way of being.
