The Light is an exploration of the sonic and visual properties of light itself, the spiritual impulse, and the magnification of everyday experience from the prosaic into the numinous. With a life as a fixed media hoerspiel work (approximately 57 min) or a live performance (variable duration), The Light uses text, electroacoustic sound processes and compositional techniques as well as acoustic sound (in the form of contact microphone recordings of lights and other electrical appliances and field recordings from India). It is an extension of the other long form works Sinha has currently been creating, although much more ambitious in nature due to length, sound material and the abstract nature of the themes.
Screened here is a lo res demo of the live performance, which features bespoke electronic instruments, live laptop audio mixing and visuals, and the text spoken by Sinha himself in real time. See also "The Light - Demo 1" for more visuals and audio.
Production of The Light was supported by the Ontario Arts Council's Grants to Media Artists: Mid Career and Established program.
