Martin Stephenson's song tells the tale of Posey Rorer, a fiddle player from Virginia, who was born crippled in 1891. Unable to run and play with the other children Posey took up music and began playing at local dances.
His crippled feet were fixed and the surgery was paid for with the proceeds from a run of moonshine whiskey.
Posey became a much sought after musician in New York in the late 1920's.
He died tragically young in 1936 at the age of 44.
