Reading Between the Lives is a seminal educational documentary film that played a major role in the integration of "Student Voices" in service of professional development around the state of California and even the nation. The movie is trailblazing in another way: student co-inquirers did all the research, developed interview questions, conducted the interviews and edited the final movie. Four Chabot College students and a teacher, fueled by a Carnegie Foundation SPECC grant, analyzed over 125 student intake essays, conducted 50 hours of intensive interviews, and trudged through 300 hours of post-production, emerging with a 60-minute movie gives voice to community college students' relationship to Reading.
