the new video for 'Mercury' by Murmansk....
MURMANSK
The name of the band will probably best describe its own music: insular, desolate, but heroically isolated; brutal, unforgiving, though majestic in its beauty; distorted, rough-cut, yet pulsating with ambience.
Murmansk, the band, combines dark-toned melodies with luscious walls of noise, wrapping the songs in echo and feedback. Even though the sound partly leans towards shoegaze, it also delivers a more aggressive, minimalistic directness, all the while producing a masterclass in working in the negative space.
Murmansk has been making this dislocated and feedback-filled music for two critically acclaimed albums already – 2008’s fine debut, “Chinese Locks”, which introduced the band to an impressed audience and gathered several domestic awards, and 2009’s stunning follow-up, “Eleven Eyes To Shade” which grabbed attention for the band from far and wide. From the band’s base in Helsinki, Finland, the compelling, intense, and hypnotic live performance was honed and duly transported across Europe, through Scandinavia, Central Europe, Russia, and the US including distinctive performances at SXSW (Austin), by:Larm (Oslo), Spot (Arhus), Popkomm (Berlin), Reeperbahn (Hamburg), Tallinn Music Week (Tallinn), Iceland Airwaves (Reykjavik), and Lost In Music (Tampere), as well as touring with bands such as Liars (US), Kinski (US), dEUS (BE), Wooden Shjips (US), Karnivool (AUS), A Place To Bury Strangers (US), and Zombie Zombie (FRA).
The hotly anticipated third album will be available in 2012.

A few words from the media......
" I’m just gonna say it: I fucking love this band. They are so fucking good. It is huge, scary, gear-heavy, gorgeous, raw and revitalising. It is reverbtastic. Their only frills are their extremely awesome and extensive pedal boards which caused a group of gear-nerds to have a circle-jerk over right before the show started and made me incredibly thankful for the wonderful teching team at Gaukurinn. Vocalist Laura’s powerful pipes delivered with such effortless intensity and left the growing crowd in a sullen, shoulder-swaying trance. I was looking forward to seeing this band and hoped they wouldn’t disappoint and they have made a full-fledged fan out of me." - The Reykjavik Grapevine
" Murmansk provide the missing link between A Place To Bury Strangers and My Bloody Valentine channelled through a Nordic filter. Their brand-new material is heavier and more melodic than ever, yet Murmansk still refuse to introduce choruses in their songs. Still one of the best alternative Finnish bands around." - The Line Of Best Fit
"Murmansk are more than simply revivalists. Their wall of sound approach blows your ears out and takes your breath away, mixing Finnish melancholy, brooding distortion and a soaring rock aesthetic. Their tight drumming and taut riffs alone would be reason enough to compliment them, but it is in singer Laura Soininen with whom they have a trump card. Soininen's caged animal delivery and impassioned yelps during tracks like Moth and the spine-tingling Sumac are very special indeed." - Music OMH
