SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- On Friday, December 2, 2011, the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Gang Resistance Intervention Partnership (GRIP) held a graduation for second and fifth grade students from Casey Elementary School in Rialto who participated in the program.
The second grade students who participated in the program successfully completed a 7-week course, while the fifth grade students completed a 9-week course. Both curriculums were instructed by school security officers with the Rialto Unified School District.
Deputy District Attorney Cary Epstein, who started the program one year ago, with the help of two interns, stated, "What I gain from the program is the hope that we have a positive impact on the students to steer them away from the dangers and influences of gangs. If we can prevent one child from joining a gang through this program, then we are making a positive impact."
