Who are Those Guys?
Those Guys, Jova and J.Al, is a hip hop duo from Monroe, OH, a suburb of Cincinnati. They became best friends when meeting as high school freshmen, and began rapping after graduating in 2008.
The sound of their music reflects their song making process; eclectic. Combine the lyrical competency of The Clipse, the time period merging of The Cool Kids, the originality and musical instinct of Kanye West, blend in the in the creativity of them selves, and that’s Those Guys. Their music gives you a view of their experiences, ambitions, emotions, and imaginations, and does so with a sound crafted in their basement studio. Taking pride in being true to them selves, they have developed a do-it-yourself attitude. As such, Jova produces many of their beats on Reason 5.0, and engineers recording on Pro Tools 8.
Performing with a 3-piece band, their live show impressively sets them apart. They’ve jammed their schedule with as many opportunities as possible to rock the stage, and have catered to hip hop, rock, and alternative crowds of all kinds. At shows, Those Guys keep the crowd actively engaged, taking cues from one of their favorite live duos, Method Man and Redman. You can find them passing out flyers and CDs everywhere they go.
After releasing their debut LP, “Greater Than The Mixtape Vol. 1” in summer ‘09, they reached thousands of listeners through internet downloads. “Greater Than The Mixtape Vol. 2” released Nov 2, 2010, has received over 6000 downloads to date. Currently, they’re promoting “Greater Than The Mixtape Vol. 3” which was released Nov. 8, 2011, on their website, YupThoseGuys.com.
