Can cakes be cool? They are if you’re Duff Goldman, star of the show Ace of Cakes. Which is why we decided he was a prime candidate to receive a custom-painted mixer from Hobart’s fictional online personality, Mixed Up Jake.
To commemorate the opening of the new Charm City Cakes West in LA, we sent Duff a flip camera and large crate with the mixer inside. In return, Duff sent back a video documenting the opening of the crate.
In the video, anticipation of the Charm City staff grows as Duff reads a letter from Hobart’s fictional online personality, Mixed Up Jake, explaining the mixer's “West Coast, low-rider style.” We couldn't have asked for a better reaction when the mixer is finally revealed and he and his staff see the the gold and purple mixer with ground effects and a 1/4" steel hood ornament for the first time. There's shock, awe, some yelling and clapping and it's all caught on camera.
Duff immediately shared his experience on Twitter, gaining even more exposure for Hobart, and a few days later, giant technology site Gizmodo even posted about it, calling it "the baddest cake mixer you've ever seen."
