Shot over several days with a 5D Mark II using my 85mm 1.8. The low light capabilities of this camera is extraordinary. Minor color grading in the beginning and end. About 95% of the images are straight from the camera.

and the other 5% are from the future???

interesting contrast to see something so dangerous and intense set to tranquil melodic music...

Lol, yeah my description didn't make much sense now that I've read it.

The Canon 5D Mark II is such a terrific camera ! Really great vid because you make original shots, not only macro and stuff like that as we can see usually with this Canon.
  • AudioGuy plus 8 months ago
Thanks, I'm just hoping Canon decides to give us manual control of this camera. It would be a shame if they let us continue tricking the camera...it is very hard to get a consistent shot from our current method.
  • Thomas Akira Nakasone plus 8 months ago
and what method is that...cas I use one where I point the camera around the area till the exposure seems nice...then I hit the exp lock button and begin recording video....

is there a better way to trick it? thanks

    Original shots? Awesome!!

Damn, why can't I stop falling in love with this camera?
  • AudioGuy plus 8 months ago
Thanks Zhic, this camera allows me to be unobtrusive. It is very hard to do this with a big ole camera.

What ISO were you shooting at? My 5dmkII is due to me on Wed. so I can't wait to start taking pictures and video with this beast. I ask about the ISO because my fastest glass currently is 2.8 though I am thinking of getting some nice primes now.
  • AudioGuy plus 8 months ago
Alex, I use a 28-70mm 2.8 all the time and I think it is good enough for these low light condtions. The ISO gets pushed to 1600-3200.

    Amazing!
Where and when in Chicago did those fires occure?
  • AudioGuy plus 8 months ago
Remi, the fires happened about a couple weeks ago in the south and west side of Chicago.

Really interesting. This is video that I wish I could download the original to determine if the stutter is from the original video or from the vimeo conversion.

    Nice job.
  • WendyCity Productions plus 3 months ago
I have the same "stuttering" problem with my videos, too. If you figure it out, please let me know :)

wow. intense, great song to it.

what frame rate were you shooting it at? 60?
  • AudioGuy plus 8 months ago
Keith, The 5D only shoots at 30fps.

If this camera had been around I definitely would have shot with it. I guess technology always goes that way. Here's to hoping they get rid of the "wiggle" and let you capture at 2K(it wouldn't take much).
  • AudioGuy plus 8 months ago
I certainly hope Canon listen to its users this time. A true 2K and 24p on the 5D would be awesome.

    somehow this is slightly disturbing..
  • AudioGuy plus 8 months ago
Hmmm...there is always something disturbing about fires. Might be because everyone runs out of the building and the firefighters go in.

Really nice quality Vid. Do you have an "in" with the Fire Fighters? You wouldn't want to appear suspicious, filming fires all of the time, right? Nonetheless, it was great to see how a fire is really handled. I found it quite interesting and your perspective made that all possible! Much appreciated!

  • Lang Holloman 8 months ago
don't let my request deter or take away from the clarity this cam offers and your shots expressed, but a little steady or tripod really could have settled down some of the shakes. thanks for sharing

Agreed, but i needed to be able to move quick outta the way of splashing water...or worst case a crumbling wall. :)

Really Nice Work! I know it to be be true, but it is still hard to believe the video came off of a still camera. I was at a phototrade show recently and there were several manufacturers showing prototypes of brackets for the camera to help keep it steady for video work.

AudioGuy...how did you get that shot of the fire fighter coming up the ladder? Are you a firefighter yourself? How'd you get that perspective?

    Thanks.
  • AudioGuy plus 8 months ago
Duke, I was up on the truck ladder as well.
  • WendyCity Productions plus 3 months ago
They let up on the ladder? Wow, you must have some serious connections with the fire dept!

I'm a firefighter. Most fire vids are matched with some sort of intense rock and roll or worse. This is really nice quality matched with interesting captive music. Many fire scenes are chaos at first followed by the monotony of a job. You captured a little of both. Good stuff.
  •
  • The Duke 8 months ago
How did you get clearance to get up on the truck ladder? You must know the firefighters or something to that effect. Very cool vantage point.
  •
  • Hayden Pernia 8 months ago
The soundtrack makes all of the video seem like a dream. The capabilities of the camera in that low of light are spectacular. It's amazing how something so intense is calmed by the song. A few months ago the local volunteer fire department near our lake house were setting houses on fire (they were going to be demolished anyway to make room for a road.) I really wish I had some type of camera then. How did you get permission to go an a ladder and get that close?
