How much are you charging your clients for a piece like this? It looks like a million bucks! If you don't feel comfortable posting pricing here, send me a private message through Vimeo. Thanks! Great work!

Great movie, I really like the natural light in sunset. Really curious of how much you charge your clients and also how you worked with the sound which was great. Thanks for posting :)

Thank you all for the positive feedback. PM me for pricing info. Sound recorded on a dvx100 with a lavaliere microphone. If you're planning on doing something similar just be aware that the 5D records at 30P not 29.97 and any camera you use will be recording at 29.97 so upon syncing you'll notice the audio begins to not match up. This is fixed my simply deleting every 1000th frame of the video. Easiest way is to set your timeline to show frames instead of timecode and punch in the frame number 1000, 2000, 3000, etc. and zoomed in as far as necessary use your blade to cut frame out and roll clip to fill missing frame.

    Bests,
    Denver
  • Scott Harris 7 months ago
Interesting that you say this, because there is a lot of info out there now that it is 29.97, and only the header says 30.00...

Nice work. Did you convert the frame rate on this as well?
  •
  • Denver Riddle plus 8 months ago
Yes, it has been converted to 24p with really good results, if anyone is interested in the workflow I'd be happy to share how it was achieved.
  •
  • Gregory Storm plus 8 months ago
Yeah. I'd love to know the workflow. It terms of sound, you also could have stretched the audio to from 29.97 to 30. With the 1000 frame method, there should still be a little drift until it reaches the cut frame whereas stretching should do it evenly and keep it in sync with the drift.

this is a great show piece. it really proves how amazing this camera can be in the right hands. you have the digital equivalent of a 35mm cinematic camera literally in the palm of your hands.

out of curiosity, is your background more in film production or still photography?
  • Denver Riddle plus 8 months ago
Quite true, the 5D is essentially a 35mm digital cinema camera. Something I've always dreamed of having since a teenager, the ability to create imagery like you see in the movies. My background is in film production, although I've been playing with 35mm lenses for over a year now with a 35mm adapter I used to own. Thank you for the compliment.

    Bests,
    Denver

you're welcome. i bet it must have felt like xmas morning the moment you picked up the 5DmkII then. I desperately want one myself but can't quite justify the price (at least not in australian dollars). i tried making a DOF adapter recently but failed terribly. so fingers crossed, there will be an entry level EOS just around the corner capable of HD video.

It's true, in fact I lucked out and was able to get mine December 24, 2008, so it was close enough to Christmas morning. You might then look at: prolost.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2009-03-05T02%3A09%3A00-08%3A00&max-results=3
I follow Stu Maschwitz closely because I find him one of the leading authorities on digital cinematography. Check out the Panasonic four thirds camera.

Great video man. Well shot, well cut, etc....
Just question how did you get the colorful film end feel and the beginning and end of the video? The flickery colorful stuff at the bottom of the frame.

    thanks a lot

    Hi Dever,
I am in love with your 5D footage. I have the 5D markII, can you please tell me what picture Style you used for shooting video? How to set the Sharpness, Contrast, Sturation, and Color tone. If I use the 5D markII to shoot lots of video. Do you think the 5D will cost problem for image issue or any other mode issue?
  • Denver Riddle plus 8 months ago
As always, thank you for the compliments. I adjust the picture style setting on camera.

WOW. You are official my hero. I'm in New Zealand and I have a major hankering to buy me a Canon 5D Mark II - what lenses did you use for this vid? And do you know if the MkII records in NTSC or PAL, or is it neither because it's HD? Cheers.

Denver...I can't really tell with my results but do you think that using this method shows any sign at all of 30p to 24p conversion? Even if it is slight?

Are your film burns coming from Magic Bullet or are they stock? They look like the Artbeats stock film burns but I'd be interested in knowing if Magic Bullet has a film burn look or filter in the suite...

Also, thanks for sharing your 30p to 24p conversion process.
