Omar, did you get a 35mm adapter or are you using a diffusion filter in post?
  • Omar Khalifa plus 9 months ago
no 35mm yet! i'm really shooting for the edit (given economic restraints!). spot focus and vignetting give it the spark.

    30 seconds of meaningless kitsch.

    congratulations, you can colour-grade!
  • Omar Khalifa plus 9 months ago
Thanks Igor, extensive collection of videos you've got there.
  • Jonathan Entwistle plus 9 months ago
    I agree Igor!

    Rule # 1.

A bunch of shots don't necessarily tell a story, or at least a coherent story.

    Rule # 2.

Cool colour-grading does not equal art.

    Rule # 3.

Less is not always more, particularly in this case.

All of the above - IMHO.

Take it for what is. I liked it, and apparently other people did as well. Constructive criticism come one, not everyone here is george lucas.

Thanks Michael, I really appreciate your comments. Igor, I invite you to take a look at the artbychance.org/ site. It's a great concept. I challenged myself to create an innovative, non-dialogue, artistic, fast-paced ultrashort with a fulcrum, and I think I did that.

It's sad to think you feel it's just colour-grading. If you engage with it, it's a careful selection of a lot of shots - along all axes - with different depths, in a very short space of time; with varying tones, and flashbacks in there, jpegs, apt transitions, a provocative NAT sound, and so on. All in 30secs. With a handycam. It's a lively experiment, and I like to think vimeo welcomes it!

I'm glad it provoked a response.

Really digging the colors man. I'm no film expert, but don't listen to Igor, your video is art. Quite personally, I think all videos are some form of art.

Cool concept and very nicely done!
But to be honest it took me 2 times to watch plus the synopsis before I caught the whole idea.
By no means do I think it's kitsch. No doubt it's fresh :)

So that's why I've had a lot of hits! Thanks Darek, I totally understand, most people have had to watch it a few times. It's there to engage with. And stimulate and provoke.

I really enjoyed this. Very simple, very easy to think of, but told in such a way as to be as misleading as possible. I love the editing, as most people probably do, and if there's one thing you can definitely do right, it's nicely compose a cutaway!

Bravo for making 30 seconds which are worth watching!
