Special thanks to the Actors: Denise Diaz & Mariana Prieto, for taking out their time during their own finals at school for this.
Liquid Skies is the story of an astronaut hurtling across the universe--past suns you and I may never glimpse, yet fighting battles we may all face ourselves one day.
This is my student short film at Art Center College of Design. It is my first big attempt at animating or doing something at this scale and finish. This is part of a broader story that I am working on, following an astronaut across the suns of many galaxies. I hope to share it with the world in the next year.

In my opinion the song doesn't fit to the happenings on the screen. And I have a reason for that: The song you've chosen has an aggressive aura. But in the video there is no violent action going on. More than that there is an opening scene with a girl watching into the sky because of the amazing traffic skyline. And here comes the next question: Why is she looking fascinated in the sky? Is she not accustomed by the view? Does this mean she's not from that time? Too many unexplained questions and it's just the first scene. And right here the sound disturbs this amazing view -> Confusing.
You have done such great VFX work, it's really amazing. And the illustrations blow the capacity of my mind. But unfortunately you have no storytelling in your clip. If I dont have read your description I would have never understand in wich talking point the story should be go.
I mean you say it yourself: You want to tell people a story about an astronaut. Then tell it. I think he is your protagonist and because of that he sould have been seen in at least one scene.
Ok, you might put a lot of effort in this video. I appreciate that. Seriously. But although your astronaut doesn't appears you still could have do the postproduction better than this.
My opinion: Never align the video to the music if you want to tell a story with a red line. Because this will interrupt that line. You matched the video to the song by doing some pausing and reversing on points where the song also pauses and reverses.
The sound of a movie, a clip, or just a little scene is the most important thing in moving pictures. The sound gives some depth to the happenings on the screen. Your song just messed up all your creative and amazing future ideas.
I think if you just have chosen a title like this it would have been much better.

Yeah you are right. You couldn't just take this song and place it in the timeline of your editing program. You don't have the rights for that. But then you have to make it on your own or choose some free licensed stuff.
The selection of the sound is one of the most important things in Movies. Your topic is fascinating. It's about planets, stars and the space. So it should also has a fascinating soundtrack in the back.
Sorry for this criticism. I don't want to hurt your feelings. I just found out, that all the poeple on vimeo just do comments like ''Awesome'', ''Great'', ''Superb'' and things like that. But that's wrong.
Everyone of us want to get better. And if people would do more construcive critics then all of us would become even better.
Please feel free to criticize all my upcoming videos in the future. That would be a pleasure for me.
Anyway... amazing artworks. Fascinating and hijacking... hijacking to other spaces.
(Sorry for my bad English)

Every shot in this fills with wonder, and a part I feel works especially well is the music. It's so unexpected. I have to disagree with the guy who commented above ^. I think the music gives it a sense of determination and danger. As if maybe the guy is fed p and escaping the world he hates (or something :))
BTW, the music fits. Nice use of static 2D artwork to give the impression of 3D.
