Sophia Loren was born in Rome. At 15 she was winning beauty pageants and playing bit parts in movies. In 1961 she won an Oscar for her performance in "Two Women", an Italian film directed by Vittorio De Sica. So far, she is the only actress to have won the Best Actress Oscar in a non-English movie.
