In 2010 during the months of September and October I traveled throughout the Himalayan region working on an Arrowhead Films documentary destined for television on Discovery's Asian networks. Arrowhead is an Austin based production company that does commercial and documentary work, largely focused towards environmental and historical subjects.
The film focused on how some of the different cultures and different regions of Himalaya are adapting to climate change and the melting of the glaciers. Without getting bogged down in the questions of 'what' and 'why' of climate science, the film focuses on the 'who' and 'how' of the people being forced to cope and adapt.
These mountains are the source of water and life for almost 2 billion people spread across eight countries, giving the Himalayas the nickname the 'Water Towers of Asia.' The 7 week shoot took me to India's far north to state of Ladahk mountains, deep into the river deltas and mangroves of Bangladesh, and trekking towards Mt. Everest's base camp in Nepal's Khumbu Valley.
