This whole project has been an amazing experience. The two of us became friends through Vimeo and explored a shared interest in timelapsing Yosemite National Park over an extended period of time. We'd like to expand this idea to other locations and would appreciate any suggestions for a future project.

Our hearts go out to the families of Markus Praxmarer who lost his life while climbing Half Dome on September 19th, 2011 and Ranger Ryan Hiller, who was crushed by a tree January 22nd 2012. They will be missed. (A photo of Ranger Ryan Hiller can be found to the right, above the statistics counter)

  • Project Yosemite plus 1 month ago
Thanks man! I love Outro but were you able to hear the quieter section of the song following the first sunset? Without bass it's almost impossible to hear.
  • Tommy Clark 1 month ago
Yeah outro is great, yep could hear that as Ive got a subwoofer. That part gives such an eerie feel to those shots especially the one with the moon rising, look forward to more !

Some beautiful shots guys... love the climbers on Elcap - based on your posts, was looking for some more winter shots with lake ice. Sure hope folk appreciate how tough it was to get your kit up into some of those locations and hope the park service left you alone. Would love to join you on a shoot sometime.
  • Project Yosemite plus 1 month ago
    Mike,

We had to drastically cut down the amount of clips we had. So much amazing stuff, but so little time. It was an experience of a lifetime doing what we did. True challenges for the modern hiker. Keep us posted on your stuff Mike!

Amazing, gorgeous, beautiful. I just watched this in my totally dark room with my headphones on and I'm still in shock. The atmosphere, the soundtrack, the build up! I've been to Yosemite NP once, 2 years ago and I absolutely loved the place, it's so amazing to experience that place again through your video. Great job guys, you gave me goosebumps :)

You really captured Yosemite in this one, guys. :-) I know those night time=lapse sequences take FOREVER, or at least it seems that way when you are doing it. Did you just set up the dolly and crawl into a sleeping bag until morning, or did you leave the gear and come back for it? Also, can you recommend a good "starter" rig for motion control time-lapse. I love the feel that motion adds.
  • Project Yosemite plus 1 month ago
    Randy,

When our dollies were taking shots, we'd scout more locations or play games on our iPhones. We photographed around the clock, so take my word when I say that we were sleep deprived.

I'd recommend the Dynamic Perception Stage Zero dolly. I did my first run with it a day before a big trip:

    vimeo.com/27184383

Super easy to configure and perfect for the not-so-tech-savvy beginners.

This really is amazing, you did what I've been dreaming of doing.

How many days of shooting do you think you did?

Also, were any of these HDR?
  • Project Yosemite plus 1 month ago
    Rey,

These are all single exposures and were shot between early September and late November.

It was quite the experience, and we'd do it again anytime!

Beautiful work guys. I have almost exactly the same rig as you, including merlin head. I use a 7D though. I'd love to join you guys sometime. I'm currently working on a video of sequences I've shot after I got my moco rig, but check out my vid of stuff before I got moving.

Thanks! I'm sure both of us would be interested in meeting to shoot some time. Your shots on the 7D are super crisp!

  • Project Yosemite plus 1 month ago
We did Half Dome on September 19. Both of us went on our own a couple times after that. The second time we got together was in Late Novemeber. It took about 3 days to finally get the edit right.
