During this panel, The New York Times multimedia team discussed how "A Year at War" grew from the beat of one reporter, James Dao, into a yearlong series of articles, videos, still photography and audio, as well as media submitted from readers. The team of 11 balanced their usual responsibilities at The New York Times as they were creating a new way of covering and telling stories of the soldiers and their families impacted by the war in Afghanistan.

The panel was held in conjunction with the Columbia Journalism School 2012 Spring Prep Day.

The New York Times journalists that spoke on the panel included:
James Dao, Staff Reporter
Andrew DeVigal, Multimedia Editor
Nancy Donaldson, Senior Multimedia Producer
Meaghan Looram, Deputy Picture Editor
Marcus Yam, Photographer
