MITES - The Minority Introduction to Science and Technology, is a rigorous six-week residential, academic enrichment program offered by MIT to promising high school juniors who are interested in exploring careers in science. In 1999, I was invited to make a documentary about this remarkable program. We spent six shooting days over six weeks documenting the endless and exhausting activities that faced these students both day and night. I have never seen such dedication and teamwork. It makes me proud to know that we have American teenagers of diverse backgrounds who are ready and capable of rising to challenge of expanding the boundaries of science in America.
