Atlantida, Installation at 2nd Biennial of the Canaries 2009
8 months ago
Commissioned work by Olga Mink and Scanner, presented at the second Biennial of the Canaries 2009 at Las Palmas.
A multi-channel video with immersive sound work, that addresses the themes of silence and landscape with location recordings of each of the seven volcanic islands captured in high detail. Its ten minute duration presents an ethereal sequence of scenes that resonates with the glory of the natural environment. Mink and Scanner captured the idea of silence and human intervention, by creating traces through different areas which adresses the existence of the real and imagined landscapes that they've confronted and readjusted throughout their journey...

But, I'll admit, I was somewhat distracted by the human figure. For me, too many references of speakers walking in front of a Powerpoint presentation came to mind. I, then, became all too aware that I was seeing a projection. Before that, I was lost in the imagery... and happy to be lost there.
Of course, not being there myself, I'm seeing it out of context and not the complete piece, so it's a bit unfair of me to mention.
Bottom line, another wonderful piece by OM.
We could easily have uploaded the original installation footage but it was designed for this gallery space and would not have represented what it actually was or how it was experienced in reality, so instead we chose to illustrate the installation itself.
The figure is to offer a human context within the environment so that's a pity you found it distracting, but hope that the mood and atmosphere was carried across well too. We'll just have to show it elsewhere soon so you can experience in full stereo and HD quality projections.
Thanks for your very kind words nevertheless :-)
I hope you are doing fine and still making great works!
Thank you very much for your invitation my dear friend Scanner and your sharing Olga mink.
