driving through indiana on my way to toledo from chicago, i chanced upon a broken radio station. i listened for over a 1/2 hour, in hopes someone would come on the air and explain what happened. i slowly went insane. "and find a production?" "and find redemption?" what was the man saying?

I kept this video down to 3 minutes, because the full 30+ minutes of actual footage is just too brutal to experience again. my brain is still melting.

Woah. It's like bad techno. A sample without a rap. You start to hear that "tch!" sound as if it's a percussion instrument. Gah! Make it stop!

I like to listen to radio static in the car. Also, I used to loop things like this and listen to them for hours. Now I have a wife, so she'd get pissed if I did that.

My money's on this being WQKO (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WQKO) broadcast out of Howe, IN with a repeater in Goshen, IN - both of which are about equidistant from the Hwy 13/131 exit you see briefly in the video.

There was a radio station here in the mid 80's that changed format from rock to country. The day they changed they looped the audio from some war movie for 24 hours straight. I assume it was to drive all the former listeners away from the frequency. It was a strange thing to do, and it's burnt into my brain to this very day. "FIRE IN THE HOLE! *KABOOM* *lots of chaotic noise* Why didn't you warn me sooner!" over and over and over again.

    So strange.

I don't feel like I can add anything to this conversation that hasn't already been said, but you are a lucky(?) man to have happened on to this, a fortunate man that you had a camera with you and a creative man to realize the world (or part of it anyway) would need to hear it.

It kinda reminds me of this radio station out of Florence SC in the early 90's. They were going through some sort of format change and for a week or two they were known as Louie 96FM. They played every version of "Louie, Louie" that they could find and only "Louie, Louie" 24hrs a day.

After that they switched to sound effects; ping pong, grass hoppers, robots, pinball machines, babies crying, etc. Until they finally became a top 40's country station.

This is why sites like vimeo are so great. If you were telling this story, it would definitely be a "you had to be there" moment; but, I definitely got the gist. As someone else said already, 30 seconds in, and I was going nuts; let alone 30 minutes!
