This street is one of the main thoroughfares in Kathmandu, and is part of the ancient trade route that linked India with Tibet. Newar Merchants from the Kathmandu Valley traded in this street for more than five centuries to take goods to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, until the 1950s. This particular spot, currently known as Kel Tol, was famous for the quality bronze ware that was sold here by the Kansakars.
