Here is a step by step documentation of how to set up a fat bike tire with what we call "ghetto tubeless". We call it "ghetto" because it is not the usual method of performing a tubeless conversion as prescribed by Stan's No Tubes. Our method uses an ordinary inner tube instead of Stan's special rim strip and/or rim tape. The obvious advantages to the ghetto method are that the whole process is less expensive and it can be performed on almost any tire/rim combination. In this case we are using a Surly Nate tire on a Large Marge rim but we have successfully used this same technique on the Surly Big Fat Larry tire with a Clown Shoe rim.
Notes: We over inflate the tire initially to seat the tire well and also because some air will leak out as the sealing process takes place.
Also we like to use schrader valves instead of presta because they have a lager diameter which allows greater air flow for easier seating when first inflated. Schrader valves are also easy to core so you can add more Stan's sealant eventually when it dries up.
