Guests filled the Grounds For Sculpture Visitor Center Viewing Room on Friday, October 14, 2011 for the second ISConnects event, Public Sculpture: Creating Community Cultural Vitality.

The event began with tram-tours of GFS’s new installation Aerial Roots, in The Meadow and Museum Building. Aerial Roots artist, Steve Tobin, along with GFS Curator’s Tom Moran and Virginia Steel, graciously guided the tour.

A panel discussion followed the tours, with distinguished panelists Ricardo Barreto, Arts Administrator and Director of the UrbanArts Institute at Massachusetts College of Art and Design; Alice Aycock, New York City artist; and Charlotte Cohen, Fine Arts Officer with the US General Services Administration. Moderated by Tom Moran, Chief Curator and Director of Artistic Development, the panelists discussed the vitality of public art to creating a sense of cohesion within communities. After the panel discussion, attendees themselves practiced the art of cohesion and networking during a cocktail reception in the GFS Museum Building.
