Shoebox Discovery: Our High School "Band"
Back in high school (maybe '91, '92) , me, a fella by the name of Joe James and Yong Sung formed a trio in the basement where the drums conveniently resided. We played a total of 1 gig - A disastrous affair where we finagled our way into a friend's birthday gathering - once again a scenario where a set of drums happened to already exist at said location. The band's name, "Soft Red Bricks" was given us, late one night by Yong's colleague in Boston. A DJ at the college radio station, the friend managed to slip our song by the dozing noses of the tastemakers and gave us three glorious minutes to transmit our message out to space and beyond. Though the band never infiltrated another house party and was never heard on the airwaves again, this audio cassette tape exists, and the name "Soft Red Bricks" has stuck since and perhaps for all eternity.
