Our Parlour with May Q, Anne Watson, Helen Wilson. This week the programme comes from Ben Madigan Care Home in North Belfast. Recreated in the Care home is a pub where two of the residents, Ann Lavery and May Currie tell what life is like in their new home and recall their loves and working days. May worked in Gallaghers Tobacco Factory and cracks risqué jokes and Ann recalls when on one night their dance was interrupted as they watched from the vantage point of the Floral Hall the WWII blitz as bombs rain down on Belfast. And what did they really kept in their gas masks bags?
Oonagh Duffy, Ben Magidan Social and Leisure co-ordinator, gives the low down on the activities that are on offer to the residents: day-outings, entertainment and how the pub "The Angel's Cove", the Corner Shop cafe and Day Nursery for doll therapy came about in the centre. To end the visit the presenters donned their finest gear for a grand sing-along with residents including Mary O Neill, Louise Huey, Roy Deering on the spoons.
Thanks to Mandy Mitchell and also all the Care staff who assisted the residents to get ready for the show and who help the residents on a daily basis at Ben Madigan Care Home and also to Volunteer Now.
