We just got back from the 6th Organic Seed Growers Conference, held this year at the site it was originally launched (by Abundant Life Seed Foundation in 2000, before being adopted by Organic Seed Alliance in 2003) at Fort Worden State Park and Conference Center in Port Townsend, Washington. An unusual maritime northwest snow and ice storm cut attendance down from over 350 to a guestimate of 275, but the sessions were filled to overflowing with sharing of technical skills of commercial seed growers and garden seed savers, reports from innovative plant breeders - farmers, private sector, and university, advocacy updates from seed policy experts and lots and lots of passion.
In particular the Seed Swap was overflowing two rooms, and could have gone on all night. I strong-armed Adam Butler of The Butler Bros into volunteering with the vid, both because I knew he had camera experience, and because he was tall enough to see over the hordes. But I had lots of fun winding my way about to grab interviews too. Thanks Adam, and thanks to all the seedheads for sharing their stories....and their seed.
