On March 8, 2009, a group of people led by the park ranger descended a steep hill called a steephead to explore seepage streams below. The ravine along with two others has been forming for ages in Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park. Steepheads are unique to north Florida. Rainwater carries sand along as it filters through the end of the ravine. This collapses the bank, especially at the base, forming a sharp incline that gradually recedes, extending the ravine.
