I can't wait to get this in to my BurnBall game for iPhone. It will make BurnBall Tribes so much better.

I'm working on integrating FBConnect into MASH, which will allow users to share their stories to Feeds. It's exciting stuff!

Unfortunately the "stories to feeds" part mentioned at 03:40 is no longer valid. wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Roadmap_Stream#Completed_Changes wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Template_Data

Since this video is considered the authoritative introduction to iPhone—facebook integration, it really ought to be updated.

FBConnect will be part of OpenFeint 1.0 along with Twitter. With OpenFeint it'll be easy for any game developer to link up its users to all the major social networks.

Am I the only one that thought this video was hilarious? And Pete is totally checking out Joe in the poster frame.

This is awesome guys. I'll be working on incorporating this into our upcoming app this week. Thanks for supporting the iPhone!

Very cool! Regarding integration methods, note that some people may prefer to reference the library file (libFBPlatform.a) instead of all of the source code files (as shown in the video). By using an Xcode "cross-project reference" you can make libFBPlatform.a a target dependency that Xcode will automatically build for you as necessary, using your current debug/release/device/simulator config. Just another way to solve the same problem, but perhaps a bit "cleaner." Tutorial: clintharris.net/2009/iphone-app-shared-libraries/

Thanks for this, I found it very easy to hook into the power of Facebook from my app (took about an hour to get everything working and publishing stories to my profile).

Could anyone tell me if using Facebook Connect in an iPhone app uses encryption? i.e. when I submit, will I have to fill out one of the encryption forms? Many thanks.

  • Joe Hewitt is a fantastic guy. Nonetheless, if there's something I really hate in this (first) world it's numbing, lifeless corporate-speak.

Very well done .... quick and accurate. No ambiguity or guessing. There were some subtle assumptions (paths, copy locations, All configuration, etc.) by the instructors, but if you pause and study the screens it is all there.

Meanwhile (not related to the video), I am finding some warnings during compile -- I think my SDK is downlevel.

I will be incorporating FB and Twitter into my new application when it debuts end-of-month.

This video needs to be updated, especially because the download link has changed and the templates are not used anymore.

This video is so deceptive! Sure you can add the functionality "in 5 minutes" but only if you've spent (literally) an hour doing a bunch of other work: adding your app to Facebook, getting keys, setting up your stream feeds... I've been trying to get this working for the last hour and (big surprise) half of the development pages are down "for maintenance" or just don't load at all. I'm SO FRUSTRATED with FB right now.
