VOLLEYBALL
Volleyball Camp Program Director, Mary Ann Sprague, has been the head volleyball coach at Principia College since 1999. As a student at Principia College Mary Ann was a strong competitor in volleyball, swimming, and track and field and was the recipient of the Howard L. Mitchell Athletic Award her senior year.
Sprague started her coaching career at the high school level, and then served as the assistant coach at University of Missouri (D1) as a setter coach before moving to Florida. In Florida, Sprague was co-director of Jacksonville Juniors and coached the Elite 18s, as well as training setters for a community college. Sprague has been a coach and personal trainer for volleyball players for 28 years and currently holds the highest certification granted by the volleyball coaches' accrediting program. Sprague has received four SLIAC Coach of the Year awards.
Mary Ann has put Principia College on the map with a variety of high quality youth volleyball training programs. She and her college players and alumni have coached over 650 local youth since 2008, including programs for kids as young as 2nd grade all the way to her (HIT) High Intensity Training Nike Volleyball camp and regional team camps she runs. Sprague will be offering Nike Volleyball camps again this year - at Principia College.
Sprague is also Principia's associate athletic director, directing the Sports Information department and the Graduate Assistant program. Coach Sprague, a CedarS alum, also directed a general "FAST" Sports Camp at CedarS in 2007.
Note that because VBC is officially a first-time CedarS program, there are special camperships available for it, especially for those also coming to an additional session. Just call the Huffs at 636-394-6162 or email us at office@cedarscamps.org so we can offer a perfect provision for your budding, Christian Science athlete.
During the 1st two hours of nearly every day, top coaches and players will teach 4th-9th grade Volleyball Camps (VBC) girls the fundamentals and fun nuances of the sport of volleyball. CedarS has fun, new settings for grass volleyball courts for you to enjoy next to both the pools and Mediterranean Skea. During the next 3 hours on most days, you VBC girls will love CedarS fun combinations of other unique activities including horseback riding and watersliding, cable knee-boarding and wake-boarding, kayaking and Stand-Up Paddleboarding, tie-dying and Time Traveling. Mix in other old and new activity favorites, from A to Z, from Archery and Art to Zipline and Zumba. To wrap up a regular day, you can join all camp friends in coached VB matches and soccer scrimages during 6th hour, right before heading off to Free Swim, dinner and ever-popular evening activities. You can look forward to a all all-camp trip to Big Surf Waterpark on the first Thursday afternoon, and to a Sunday Freedom Triathalon, great breakfast, Sunday School class, VBC picture, lunch, Parade, JL Carnival, and Freedom Talk followed by fantastic fireworks to cap off our Independence Day Celebrations.
Cabin assignments will be made based on the grade-levels of Sports Camps girls. (You and VBC girls near your age will likely be in a cabin with Soccer Camp girls near your age.) Your caring cadre of cabin counselors will be accomplished athletes as well as fun counselors trained to be "professional role-models". CedarS Volleyball Camp coaching team is comprised primarily of Principia coaches, with Mary Ann coaching for Week One (June 24-30) and her assistants leading VBC activities during Choice Week Two when you will also get to focus more on your favorite camp activities and overnight trip (Pack, Float, Fish, or Climb-Cave).. During Choice Week you VBC campers can choose to stretch yourselves with more vb match play, drills and conditioning. The metaphysical groundwork that you will be trained to lay in developing volleyball skills, agility and conditioning will give you skills, poise and meta-physical fitness for every event in your life. Older girls will have an opportunity to practice a bit longer on a couple of nights under the lights for more in-depth coaching. Competition time will be broken up by skill level and age group to ensure the most effective use of time.
