Shot with a reversed 50mm 1.8 in front with 1 inch of working distance. About 40 seconds in I tried out the 40x digital zoom to see the quality. Shot in AV mode @F8.

F8 is awsome lots more DOF, 40X is cool but really kills the detail .

Great quality. Getting that close to the spider gave me a whole new perception of it. Still creepy.

Would like to see the rig you used to mount the lens...sounds like your not using a 35 mm adapter system....this camera continues to impress...thanks for the test ..

Here is a picture of my set up but with my other video camera pbase.com/jra111/image/88133021/medium.jpg
You get super magnification but you have to be about 1inch away from what you film . It's real hard with bugs because the scare away.

nice use of tape nothing like an effective bodge to get the creative juices flowing...fantastic results for such a lo fi setup good work fella

i love it! It makes me notice how when you magnify insects their movements remind me of mammals.
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 2 years ago

Your supermacros are fantastic. I know how difficult they can be - with infinitessimal DOF, and being so close to the subject that you destroy the lighting, let alone scaring most of the subjects away.

BTW, You can buy an inexpensive male-male (ring)adaptor to attach the reversed lens to the HV20 and eliminate the tape.
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 2 years ago
Thanks, I just bought one of those. Holy monkey that was a crazy shot!

man this is incredible, im not too familiar with Depth of Field stuff so would you mind telling me what lenses you attached to get this fine detail on such small creatures?
    thanks.
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 1 year ago
    Thanks Stevo
I used a reversed 50mm slr lens , it gives you alot of magnification but about 1-2 inches of working distance. It takes a little practice but the results are good.

This is Awesome! You really inspired me to do some macro! I'm using an HV20 with a 28mm-80mm lens reversed in front. The camera can actually zoom and be focused through the lens! I have to zoom sorta too close to avoid vignetting. :P
