"Day at Alligator Creek" (HD version)
If you have trouble playing this video check out the smaller version here: vimeo.com/358592.
Alligator, iguanas, and other wildlife abound in this short film set to music shot with the Canon HV20. If you like nature/wildlife films check it out! Please leave a comment and let me know what you think. Watch for the alligator opening his eye at :20. If you look closely at 2:17 you'll see an alligator jump out of the water. Favorite shot: Baby alligator swimming around with a dragonfly perched on it's head. The thumbnail above is a digital photo I shot with the HV20 and does not appear in the video. Many of us are so caught up in the hectic everyday pace of our lives that we forget to open our eyes and appreciate the beauty of nature that's happening right before us. Take a few moments every day to stop and look, you'll find it no matter where you are.

Awesome Video!
David-I did use a tripod for most of the shots. The only exceptions were the shot where the bee comes out of the flower and the baby iguana sitting on the branches next to the water. If you look close enough in both of those shots you can see the camera moving slightly.

Looks damn professional.
tht camera is great
an so is the editing
nice video
wht did u use to edit it?
David-I edited with Final Cut Express. For compression settings I used QT and exported with the following settings:
Frame Rate-Current
Keyframe-every 30 frames
Quality-High
Data Rate-restrict to 4000 kbits per second
Lucasberg-I filmed in 60i
YOUR video is bookmarked to underline my position, why Vimeo is a 'killer app' compared to YT or VG ..
EXCELLENCE!!
technical: the full-screen version of your movie looks much better than the programs I'm watching on TV.. wonderfull photography, allthough as a movie-maker myself (=preferred iMovie, just a daddy-does-mov guy.. FCE is installed, but still a learner), I would like to see 'a lil' more' camera movement.. ;)
.. I'm a busy-bee at the Apple Discussions Forum, I'll make some tests here before my final recommendation, but I'm pretty sure, you'll get a lot of traffic on your site ;)
would you like to tell us a word about the music? very.. layed backed and relaxing.. like it..
keep filming!
Thank you for the comment! I actually made a conscious decision to NOT move the camera in the video. I wanted it to be a series of photographs "come to life" so to speak. I did experiment with moving the camera a little, but it wasn't right for this project. I have a feeling my next project will have a tad more camera movement, and that's all I'm saying for now ;) I have to decide if it's something I want to risk my life for. But if I go ahead with the idea it'll be a video like no other (I hope).
The main theme playing in the video is "Safari Sundown" composed by Shaun Harris. The "sunset" song is called "Carolina".
Also once you start using FCE you won't look back.....

How did you set the exposure? Did you use any filters, like a polarizer? Manual focus?
Everything was auto except for focus which I set on manual. Shooting wildlife is challenging and to capture the moment I use mostly auto settings with the exception of focus. Glad u enjoyed it!

Absolutely crazy overhoted Hot-Spots inside the creek of deep nature.
I am over and out.
Need some days for digest what I see.
For me you are a great moviestar behind your camera.
Beautiful Work!
You have a very good eye for wildlife film making and your films have an amazing aesthetic. You are also very patient. I DO work with the Discovery Channel, contact me.
Beautiful shots. I am impressed.
I only didn't like the music. It made the video seem like an in-between-snack, and it's absolutely not. Nice work!
Keep up the good work !!!
