Trumpeter Swans were nearly extinct in the late 1800's, but the Pacific Coast population of Trumpeter Swans now numbers over 27,000 birds. They summer in Alaska, but winter in the Puget Sound region. I made this video because Trumpeter Swans come back to the Snoqualmie Valley, where I now call home, each winter, and each winter I fall in love with them anew, as their magical voices ring out in the fog. But they still face the threat of habitat loss and lead poisoning. This is my way of giving back to the swans, who bring grace, beauty, and meaning to those of us who live here.
