In Busia not far from Mumias by the border with Uganda, we learn from Lambert Ogochi of the Busia Outgrowers Company that local people were displaced to make way for a sugar processing plant that never came. Mumias sugar company took over, and have apparently asked farmers to grow cane, but still no processing factory has been built. The people of Busia, especially those displaced by the sugar project, suffer greatly from poverty.
