I first fell in love with photography after my Dad gave me our family’s Polaroid 600 instant camera. I was fifteen years old, standing in his room, when he pulled the camera out that had taken photos of our family for years. It had dust on it because our family had upgraded years before to a ‘nicer’ camera, and the 600 had gotten left behind on the shelf. Expecting him to say no, I asked if I could have it. He let me stand in suspense for about 90 seconds before surprising me, and saying yes. Each time I left home after that, with the 600 hanging on my neck, he would joke that people were going to be asking me what it was.
Some of my favorite photos in the world were taken on my Polaroid 600. Thank you Dad, for giving me something that led me to find one of the things I love most in the world, photography. Each time I take a picture, it brings me back to you.
Here is a video I created, inspired by that. “instant.love”
