6440 miles to go.
Sunday, 8th January 2012: Stunning day, hard to start something so overwhelming, but like anything worthwhile it starts with the first step. I chose the southern end of the Welsh coastal path which will be officially opening in May. It begins in the historic center of Chepstow, next to the old bridge across the Wye overlooked by the castle, and climbs from there through the town, the town wall and follows the river across the cliffs at Bulwalk, past the Silurian Hillfort and out towards the old Severn suspension bridge. Crossing the M48 into Wales the path heads on across farmland to St.Pierre Church and golf course and then reconnects with the coast at Leechpool and on to 'Blackrock' sitting clear of the mudbanks in the fast flowing currents of the Severn. coast-line.co.uk
