44. Intro to Cinema 4D - Tutorial
Today, I run through the basics of setting up a scene in Cinema 4D and rendering an image. We are gonna make this abstract sphere scene above using HDR lighting, The Mograph module, and Global Illumination.

Download the HDR Map and C4D Project file at my Blog : greyscalegorilla.com/blog/2009/03/16/intro-to-cinema-4d-tutorial

Layout from - hypa.tv/hypablog/

Thanks to Chad Ashley for the HDRI Map.

    Great tutorial Nick,

I downloaded the demo of Cinema 4d the other day and wasn't able to figure out much with it on my own, i learned Maya in uni but wasn't fussed on it so have been using blender as it's the only one i can afford at the moment :)

Good stuff. Been following Tim's tutorials on FXPHD just now, priceless stuff!

You know about Chris Smith's CS Tools?
    circlesofdelusion.blogspot.com/2007/09/cstools-full-docs.html

Would love to see more tutorials on implementing these alongside Mograph. Currently playing with them and a coffee bean!

Theres Not alot of Tutorials and intro's to C4D so Bless you for creating this one, buddy! :D
I basically wanna try C4D because ive heard it is so much more intuitive than other softwares. Getting a final Render like this out of Maya or 3Ds Max is such a burden!

Hey Nick, awesome tutorial. Is advanced render (I think you mentioned it at the beginning of this tut) the reason I am not able to access render settings and turn off the auto light? Thanks.

@ 3:52 you explain adding the EXR texture.
    Works in C4D v.10
When adding this texture to C4D v.11
you just get a red outline in the material editor ?

For some reason its not possible to ad EXR to v.11 this way?

    Any idea.

    thx

Cinema 4D isn't popular here in Japan, so it's tough to find nice websites and tutorial like this...

    Nice tutorial!
Using boxes instead of spheres turns out to produce less interesting reflections..

Anyone knows why? Is it because of the flat surfaces of a box?

  • GREAT tut buddy, so easy, simple, and great result.
This is the first time using the C4D for me, it's better than anyother 3d program for beginners.

Great tutorial. Does anyone how to get the HDRI look on the objects only without it being on the sky background? I'm looking for a clean simple background that the objects are set in...
