This talk was presented at the Abbey Theatre Dublin, during the three performances given there of James X in 2010. The talk looks at the dilemma and condition of how institutions impact on our lives and in some cases turn us into institutional slaves and effect our responses to wrong-doing in that we tend to protect the institutions that abuse us. The reputations of the institutions must be protected at any cost. Hence, the Irish State indemnified itself and the Irish Catholic Church against any wrong doing with regards residential institutional abuse as described in the commission to inquire into child abuse by Justice Sean Ryan.
This talk takes into consideration the issue of institutions and the culture of institutionalisation in the face of truth.
