The Magic village is a student project I created as part of the 2011 teaching programme at Design Centre Enmore, Sydney Institute. There are aver 75 animated characters in this cheeky tail. With only 27 students working on the project one day per week it was always going to be big ask to complete. As writer director and producer I needed to build team spirit and a high degree of trust within the group. There is a dance sequence within the story and I decided that if we were to animate it properly then we needed to learn the dance. I brought in a Prima Ballerina to choreograph the sequence and teach it. It was her first time teaching animators and the first time most of them had even seen a ballerina! I was so impressed with their commitment. For six weeks they animated all day then danced all evening and even agreed to be filmed as animation reference. We also held acting classes and you can imagine what they were like by looking at the result. You can find out more by watching our Making of the Magic Village film. Enjoy.
