Louis XV Style Walnut Wood Armoire
This is a beautifully carved Louis XV style armoire acquired in France. We believe it is mid 1800's.
The curved top rests upon a frieze of scrolling vines and is centered by love birds surrounded with Oak leaves in a stylized shell. Two love birds tell us that it was a wedding armoire. It was commissioned to be built by the brides parents, and then given as a gift to the bride once she was married.
The door moldings are carved directly from the wood. The pewter hardware appears to be original, and the interior lock has full rod extension from top to bottom. The central panel is of a musical book and flutes, held by a ribbon and flower in a basket. The apron has a basket with flowers and a pierced c-scroll. It is in very good condition, and the patina of the walnut wood is wonderful. This is a stunning piece!
