A montage of video footage taken in the former Fourierist community of Utopia, Ohio, and still photographs of historical documentation. The first idealist settlers arrived by boat from Cincinnati. A few years later their meeting house was destroyed in a flood and many members died. The site of the original meeting house is now underwater as the Ohio River's width has more than doubled in the last hundred and fifty years following engineering work on dams and canals downriver from Utopia. The video concludes with footage of the riverbank, closest to the site of this event that ended the original community. Two further 19th-century utopian settlements succeeded that first one, though little few traces remain other than the ruins of an underground church and the street plan leading up from the river that retains some of the original land allocations.
