Pendulum Video
A visual realization of Steve Reich's composition "Pendulum Music" using my HV30, a flat screen and EMPAC's studio 2 that had an easily accessible tall ceiling. Not sure how I feel about the piece yet, but it was fun to try..also available in an ultra widescreen version (2440x530)
See Kyle's glitchy documentation of making the piece, here: vimeo.com/3554278

Kyle McDonald 9 months agoIt's so hypnotic. Everything is so well synced. It sounds like the feedback starts around 2:25ish? I still don't understand how that one pitch was so loud. -
Michael T. Bullock 9 months agoAwesome. Is the audio from all 4 shoots? -

9 months ago yeah..it isnt as phase-y as the Reich piece is for whatever reason but it still sounds kind of interesting..i tried with an older mono TV and it was much less warbly and had a different fundamental -
LukeNoonan 9 months agoI really love that the one in the upper left ends up at a different angle. It makes the visual feedback develop much more spiral-y and less "hall-of-mirrors" -
Andrew Eckel 5 months agoDid you have to compress the video to upload it? It looks compressed. Other than that, this is pretty cool!! There no WAY I would sit and watch that for 12 minutes, but every part I skipped to is great, and it clearly gets better and better as it goes on. If I were you, and I'm not, I would try to find some occasion to show that movie as "background"...somewhere where people would actually be present for the entire viewing (not just walking by), but it wouldn't have to be the center of their attention. (Like...show it on a screen in a restaurant or behind a band while they perform, although unfortunately that would mean muting it.)
