Spent a week running around Niger with a translator and driver during the recent elections. Between the chaotic elections and Al Qaeda kidnaping two frenchmen - the trip was great. I really came to appreciate the food, culture and friendly people. It was a bumper millet harvest while I was filming but many people in Niger have suffered from droughts and an inability to find food. Through CARE's Village Savings and Loan program, Mamata Tinou began a cereal bank in her village of Genki. Not only has Mamata created a thriving business, the people of Genki have ample food available at all times. Mamata is now the leader of a regional federation microfinance program and respected in her community for her knowledge and skills. Find out more by visiting care.org.
