Entitled Shadow Box, the MASC AW12 collection
is influenced by Kar Wai Wong’s film, In The
Mood For Love, in combination with the study of
traditional Japanese pattern cutting techniques.
By uniting generous rectangular panelling with
the archetypal 1960’s Hong Kong silhouette,
the designers have successfully created a
subverted Mandarin aesthetic. Drawing on the
shadowed and poetic mood of the film, the range
features high collars, deep colours and finely cut
form. Hem splits reveal flashes of contrasting
texture, folded panelling travels down the
body and darted form runs across shoulders.
Saturated hues & rich textures from the
film’s period have been translated into the
finest Italian ribbed wool, brushed suede
and plush mohair, with this season’s key
fabric combining printing, glazing and laser
cutting to create unusual fibrous scales.
MASC’s second collection marks a cohesive
progression, with designers Duncan Shaw
and Billy Yick building on the unprecedented
success of their debut season. Securing high
calibre stockists such Selfridges & Co where the
label featured as one of the prestigious Bright
Young Things with a dedicated window display.
All MASC pieces are handmade in England.
