To coincide with the launch of the iPhone 4S CBS commissioned Headspin Media to animate a complete history of the iPhone. With regards to animation Headspin were asked to utilise the increasingly popular infographic style. Using a simplistic illustration animated alongside detailed text, inforgraphics give the overall impression that you are watching an animated diagram or instruction manual. The idea with the text is that the important facts are large and easy to read while the more in depth information is in smaller print giving the viewer the opportunity to pause the video and read. The most well-known use of this style of animation is the music video for Royksopp's 'Remind Me' and the map introduction in the iPhone Infographic is an acknowledgement of their influence.
Headspin Media is a young design and animation agency established in London in 2010. They originally focussed on their particular area of expertise, content for digital signage, which can most notably be seen in O2 stores across the UK. Whilst continuing in this market, Headspin have since moved into several other areas, including onscreen animation for concerts, animations for online gaming and informational animations for websites, such as the iPhone Infographic.
