HV20 + DIY35mm adapter.

For more info:
hv20.com/showthread.php?t=2825

I've been making these 35mm adapter and spent about 4 months testing and refining the adapter to get this kind of footage. I'm always on the run when filming so I made the adapter light and compact.

Looks lovely, but it might be more wise to export to 23.976 (which is the native HV20 24p frame rate after pulldown removal) instead of 24fps sharp, because you might have sync problems. I added it to the HV20 HD channel.

I rendered my third video in 23.976 and I see the difference in terms of the frame rate of the video. I never thought 24p could get that smooth. Thanks!

Can someone explain where the "24fps sharp" setting occurs? Is this with all NLEs or just Vegas? I would figure 24fps is just 24fps -- how could there be a difference? What if my encoder rounds out to 23.98, is that okay? Thank you in advance...

by 'sharp' she just means 24.000p vs 23.976p.

its 'sharp' cause its exactly 24.

So does the film-like look come from using the different lens? Or is it the 24p? Or both?
  • twoneil 8 months ago
I think it's mainly shallow depth of field, 24p and also lighting makes it look like a film.

    I don't even like this%u2026

    I LOVE THIS!!!

Great focus pulls, and it's sick how things are so total yet so shallow in depth. Beautiful, just art.

Perfect choice of music as well!

Do you have to flip the camera upside down with this adapter?
  • twoneil 4 months ago
The image that I see is upside-down.
(even if I flip the camera, the image remains upside-down)

I modified my *brain to see it right-side-up.

Just made the plunge and purchased one of your adapters. All that's left to do now is wait for it to arrive. :-)

    wich nikon lens you use?
  • twoneil 2 months ago
For this particular video, I use a Canon FD 50mm f1.8
I actually prefer Nikon lenses. They are generally sharper.

What kind of adapter did you wind up using? You built your own? You didn't use the Brevis or Letus 35 adapters? I'm looking for a cheap 35mm lens solution. Mind sharing your secrets? :) Awesome footage :)
  • twoneil 2 months ago
Though, I had the Brevis before, I'm still currently using my DIY35mm adapter.
